Experienced featherweights Jimmie Rivera and Cody Stamann fought on the main card of UFC’s “Fight Night” on Wednesday. Their clash went like this.
Bout 9: Jimmie Rivera (22-4) vs. Cody Stamann (19-2-1) (Featherweight)
Rivera had a strong start, landing leg kicks and punches. Stamann was able to catch a kick in the second minute, tripping Rivera after. Rivera did the same thing the next minute, however he put Stamann against the fence in a body lock after. The referee separated them in the final minute against the fence. Rivera landed a counter-punch in the final minute clean.
Stamann shot for a takedown early, getting on the back of Rivera. The fighters only got to their knees, never fully going down. They stood up in a clinch a minute into the fight. Rivera got a takedown, getting on the back of Stamann for a moment before he worked his way back to his feet in a clinch. They separated with half of the round left. Stamann connected with a flying knee to the head in the closing seconds of the round. Rivera responded with a hook after.
Stamann tried for a takedown in the third round, bout Rivera was able to limit it to a clinch. Rivera tried for a guillotine choke on the feet with a minute-and-a-half to go in the fight. Stamann escaped the choke and tried for a single leg takedown. They went back to stand-up with less than a minute left. Both fighters connected with some hard punches to end the round. 30-27, 30-27 & 29-28
RESULT: Jimmy Rivera def. Cody Stamann via Decision, Unanimous
