Kicking off the UFC’s show on Saturday night was strawweights Mallory Martin and Hannah Cifers. Here’s how their matchup went.
Bout 1: Mallory Martin (6-3) vs. Hannah Cifers (10-6) (Strawweight)
Early on in the fight, Cifers would pace around the perimeter of the octagon, dipping in for striking exchanges with Martin. A right hook from Cifers dropped Martin in the third minute of the fight. Cifers went down in full guard, slamming Martin on the mat before moving into side control. They got back to their feet, where Cifers pressed forward with punches to the head. Martin was clearly still hurt, backing up and eating a lot of the shots. Backed against the fence, Martin shot for a takedown that was stopped. Martin pulled guard, taking the fight to the ground and stopping the momentum that Cifers had with striking. Cifers landed some punches from full guard on top. They went back to the feet just before the round ran out of time.
Martin put Cifers against the cage in a clinch early in the second round. She got a takedown shortly after, gaining half guard on top of Cifers. Moving into full mount, Martin threw strikes to Cifers. Cifers gave up her back, causing Martin to try for a rear naked choke. Cifers tapped out shortly after.
RESULT: Mallory Martin def. Hannah Cifers via Submission, Rear Naked Choke (RD 2, 1:33)
