The long-awaited MMA debut of boxing prizefighter and gold medalist Claressa Shields is set to happen on June 10th against Brittany Elkin, as announced by the promotion Wednesday.
The fight joins a PFL event that is set to happen at the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA, where the entire 2021 PFL regular season will take place.
Shields enters her MMA career after putting together a strong career in boxing. The 26-year-old currently holds a pro boxing record of 11 wins. She fought as an amateur from 2010 to 2016, winning two Olympic gold medals in that time.
Shields’ intentions to compete in MMA were first reported in December when she signed with PFL. She has recently been training at prolific MMA gym Jackson Wink MMA to prepare for her shift to MMA.
Elkin enters the fight with a negative pro record of three wins and six losses. Her last PFL appearance was in 2018, where she lost to Kayla Harrison, who was making her pro debut at the time.
Elkin has competed as a pro since 2014 and has lost her last three.
