UFC is currently in the process of making a fight between former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jan Blachowicz and rising contender Aleksandar Rakic, per reports. The promotion is currently aiming to book the fight for the main event of their March 26th card, as first reported by Ariel Helwani.
A follow-up report from Damon Martin and Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting explained that the fight has been agreed upon by all parties, however the fight has not been finalized in contract form as of yet.
Should the fight be made official, it would become the headliner for a UFC event that doesn’t have a confirmed location at the moment.
The matchup would be Blachowicz’s first appearance following a one-year run as champion.
Blachowicz lost his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship in October, suffering a second-round rear naked choke loss to Glover Teixeira.
Blachowicz first earned his belt in September 2020, stopping two-time title challenger Dominick Reyes in the second round with strikes. He defended his belt once during his reign, earning a unanimous decision victory over 185-pound champ Israel Adesanya in March.
Rakic is currently on a two-fight winning streak. The 29-year-old fighter has achieved six wins and one loss since joining the UFC roster in 2017. His last fight was against former title challenger Thiago Santos, who he beat via decision earlier this year.
