Andy Clamp will meet a champion of Cage Warriors’ past when he puts his light heavyweight belt on the line for the first time next month.
Clamp is scheduled to meet James Webb in a clash for the promotion’s 205-pound division title on September 21st, as recently announced. The fight is expected to headline Cage Warriors 178 from the BEC Arena in Manchester, England.
Clamp captured the light heavyweight belt earlier this year, scoring a third-round stoppage win against Matthew Byfield to gain the vacant title. The English fighter had previously earned a dozen regional wins, with one of the victories being a quick submission against undefeated prospect Ghassan Abdenabi in 2023.
The performance earlier this year for Clamp put him in a lineage of accomplished 205-pound fighters who went on to do big things in the sport. Past light heavyweight titleholders include UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping, current Bellator talent Karl Moore, and active UFC roster talent Modestas Bukauskas.
As he looks to hang onto his title, Clamp will face off against a past middleweight champ who has recently taken a trip up a division.
Webb was the Cage Warriors Middleweight Champion briefly in 2019, earning the title with a submission win over Thomas Robertsen. After fighting to a draw against Nathias Frederick, he lost a rematch to him later that year which put an end to his title run. Webb recorded an even record of three wins and three losses at middleweight in the years that followed.
The 34-year-old fighter made his debut at light heavyweight just last month, beating Adam Bieganski on scorecards. Just weeks removed from that win, he’ll have an opportunity to fight for the division’s belt.
