PFL heavyweight Daniel James has been handed a 10-month suspension after failing a drug test earlier this year.
James tested positive for a metabolite of the prohibited substance letrozole in early May as part of an out-of-competition sample collected by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), per a recent announcement.
Prior to his drug test, James was en route to making PFL’s heavyweight playoffs. He scored the maximum possible amount of points in his first regular season fight after stopping Marcelo Golm in the first round. He expected to appear later in the season against Tyrell Fortune but was notably pulled from the fight around the time he had violated USADA’s anti-doping policy.
While the usual suspension for a test finding any substance under the class of Hormone and Metabolic Modulators lasts 12 months, James received a reduced sanction due to his cooperation with the testing body’s investigation.
The suspension means that James won’t be able to compete in PFL fights until March 8th, 2025. If next year’s PFL season begins at the same time as the most recent one, early April, that means James will be eligible to compete in the full season in 2025.
