No stranger to setbacks, Tatiana Suarez has run into yet another incident which will delay any chance at challenging for the UFC Strawweight Championship sometime down the line.
Suarez has withdrawn from her December 7th fight against third-ranked 115-pound fighter Virna Jandiroba, as first reported by MMA Melotto and recently confirmed by Damon Martin of MMA Fighting. The bout was expected to be a part of UFC 310 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
The exact reason for Suarez’s departure hasn’t been specified, although MMA Fighting reported that a health issue has taken the top strawweight contender out of her latest booking.
While 33-year-old Suarez has been on the rise since winning Season 23 of “The Ultimate Fighter” in 2016, her run toward a title shot has been slowed significantly due to numerous injuries. Her medical battles, including sustaining a knee injury in 2021, were a major storyline in HBO’s “The Unbreakable Tatiana Suarez” documentary which premiered earlier this year.
The December booking is her fourth cancelled fight since 2021, causing her to compete only twice since the beginning of the 2020s.
It remains unclear whether Jandiroba will receive a new opponent for her end-of-year assignment.
