UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira is set to be the latest fighter to cross-over into Hollywood.
Pereira has been tapped for a role in “gonzo action horror thriller” film “Onslaught,” as first reported by Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie, which is housed by A24 and will be directed by Adam Wingard, sees Pereira make his acting debut alongside Adria Arjona. The film is currently in pre-production, with details on the production hard to find and no known release date.
The news underscores the growing popularity of Pereira, who has headlined many of UFC’s top pay-per-view cards over the past year. Just a few years after joining the promotion with a reputation from the world of kickboxing, Pereira has grown to be one of the most recognizable champions on the roster. His current reign in the 205-pound division has seen him score finish wins in Madison Square Garden, and headlining the high-profile “International Fight Week” and UFC 300 shows.
2024 has been a big year regarding MMA’s tie-ins with film. Earlier this year, a remake of “Road House” saw the story re-written with an MMA twist and featuring former two-division champ Conor McGregor in a support role. Information has also come out throughout this year regarding “The Smashing Machine,” a biopic on former Pride FC and UFC vet Mark Kerr. The film, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, will also involve MMA vets Bas Rutten and Ryan Bader.
