LFA’s 2024 schedule will wrap up with a pair of major prospect title fights from Commerce, California, USA on December 9th.
A title unification at 145 pounds and an appearance between rising lightweight names in a five-round championship bout will both go down at LFA 198 inside The Commerce Casino & Hotel a little over a month from now, as recently announced by the promotion.
Featherweight champs Elijah Johns and Lerryan Douglas are expected to meet in the main event of the night, with just one leaving the venue with gold still around their waist.
After both gaining LFA titles earlier in the year, it only makes sense that the 145-pound prospects meet in the promotion’s finale for 2024.
Johns gained the LFA Featherweight Championship in February of this year, going five rounds to defeat Alfred Walker on scorecards and earn the vacant title. The win was a comeback for Johns, who had previously failed to capture the belt in 2023 against Javier Garcia (although the fight was later overturned due to a failed drug test from Garcia).
Later in the year, LFA found an interim champ for the division in Douglas. After back-to-back finish wins under the LFA promotional banner, Brazil’s Douglas put away veteran Javier Reyes in the second round of a bout to capture the belt earlier this year.
While they both prevailed in main event title fights earlier this year, only one of the featherweights will head into 2025 with the momentum of two massive wins.
LFA Lightweight Champion Richie Lewis will look to defend his title for the first time when he faces Richie Miranda in the co-main event.
Lewis dethroned Kegan Gennrich four months back, using his wrestling to score a one-sided decision win through five rounds. The performance moved his undefeated record to six wins, including a 2023 title victory in Florida-based promotion Titan FC.
Lewis will now go up against Miranda, a seven-fight LFA vet who will receive his first title shot this weekend. After getting his momentum stopped briefly in 2023 with a loss to the aforementioned Gennrich, Lewis has strung together three wins over the past 13 months to climb up to a main event fight.
Miranda most recently got former LFA champ and past Bellator fighter Maycon Mendonca, beating him via unanimous decision in August. He will now have to end an undefeated fighter’s impressive record for the first time if he hopes to become the promotion’s top lightweight star.
