Three Fighters From UFC Edmonton Card Part Ways With Promotion

A trio of heavyweights who appeared on last weekend’s UFC card in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada are reportedly no longer under contract with the promotion.

Alexandr Romanov, Rodrigo Nascimento and Caio Machado have all parted ways with the UFC in recent days, per a pair of recent reports from MMA Fighting.

Romanov is the most puzzling of the recent roster departures, as he leaves the UFC despite prevailing in his most recent bout. He overcame Nascimento at last week’s show, returning to the win column via decision after dropping a bout to contender Jailton Almeida a few months prior. He had a relatively successful run overall in the UFC, attaining seven wins and three losses since his 2020 debut under their banner.

The MMA Fighting report stressed that while Romanov is a free agent, nothing hypothetically prevents him from inking a new contract with the promotion. However, as it stands right now, it’s unclear what will be next for his career.

Nascimento’s loss to Romanov was his second consecutive defeat as a UFC fighter. Before then, he had a three-fight winning streak stopped with a main event loss to former title challenger Derrick Lewis.

Machado suffered his third consecutive loss last weekend, dropping a split decision to Brendson Ribeiro. The defeat, Machado’s career debut at 205 pounds after taking a pair of losses up at heavyweight, left him winless through his rookie year as a UFC fighter.
