Invicta FC’s 2024 schedule will conclude with a high-stakes matchup in the bantamweight division.
135-pound champ Talita Bernardo will put her title on the line against former UFC title challenger Jennifer Maia at Invicta FC 59, per an announcement made this week. The bout will serve as the main event for a December 13th card from Atlanta, Georgia, USA. A venue has yet to be confirmed for the event.
Bernardo will look to become just the second-ever bantamweight champion in Invicta FC history to defend the belt twice or more if successful next month. The fellow UFC vet initially gained her title back in early 2023, dethroning Taneisha Tennant with a five-round unanimous decision result.
The 37-year-old Rio de Janeiro talent put her title on the line for the first time as part of the promotion’s return show in June, taking on Olga Rubin. She didn’t need all five rounds to win that time, slipping in a rear naked choke to stop Rubin in just the second round of the fight.
Bernardo will now arguably get the biggest challenge of her career thus far, facing the highly experienced Maia.
Chute Boxing’s Maia re-joined the Invicta FC roster earlier this year following a 12-fight run on the UFC roster. While she previously held the regional womens promotion’s flyweight title for a year and a half, her return to the brand two months ago saw her move up to bantamweight for the first time.
After beating Mayra Cantuaria in the main event of Invicta FC 56, Maia was selected as the next challenger for Bernardo. If successful, Maia will become the first-ever two-time champion in the promotion’s history.
