Fabricio Andrade Starches Kwon Won Il In Just 42 Seconds To Defend ONE MMA Title

Fabricio Andrade needed just a few seconds to win in his return to ONE’s MMA scene, defeating rival Kwon Won Il in less than a minute with brutal strikes.

Andrade defended his 145-pound ONE MMA title in the co-main event of ONE 170 on Friday night from the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, putting away Kwon in just 42 seconds.

27-year-old Andrade melted Kwon with a two-punch combination in the fight’s opening minute, going down to the body with a left hook and following up with a right hook to the head. The Brazilian champ followed a crumbling Korean challenger to the canvas after the shot, scoring with ground and pound strikes until referee Herb Dean stepped in to end the bout.

The finishing sequence came after Andrade briefly battled with an aggressive Kwon, shaking off a takedown attempt and engaging with the challenger on the feet.

“I didn’t expect him to come forward like that fast …  I thought he was going to shoot for the takedown, but I didn’t expect him to strike, to come forward,” Andrade said after his quick win. “I thought he would strike backward and then shoot for takedowns. But when I saw he came to fight, I had to meet fire with fire.”

Defending champ Andrade was appearing in MMA for the first time since early 2023 when he snatched the promotion’s 145-pound title in a fourth-round stoppage against UFC vet John Lineker. He then spent nearly 24 months on the sidelines, apart from a lopsided kickboxing loss to Muay Thai vet Jonathan Haggerty in November 2023.

Now back with a statement victory, Andrade hopes that 2025 will be a significantly busier year for him than it has been in recent months.

“I want to stay active in MMA,” he said. “I think I still have a lot of room for improvement … I want to defend my belt at least three times more this year.”

Kwon was aiming to avenge a 2022 loss he suffered to Andrade before either fighter arrived in the title picture. He went on a run of three consecutive finish wins following that defeat, earning a third-place spot in the division’s MMA rankings in the process.

Tawanchai Takes Out Superbon In Second Muay Thai Title Meeting

ONE 155-pound Muay Thai king Tawanchai P.K.Saenchaimuaythaigym held onto his title in Friday’s main event, putting away Superbon in the second round of their rematch meeting.

A trio of knockdowns from Tawanchai in the second frame—all stemming from fast-paced flurries of punches—caused the fight to be stopped, removing an out-of-depth Superbon from the fight and stopping him for the first time in five appearances.

The outburst of knockdown-ensuing punches from Tawanchai came after a close, back-and-forth opening round between the respected Thai talents.

The early finish gave Tawanchai an emphatic second win against Superbon, closing out their rivalry for the time being. The duo first met in late 2023, with Tawanchai being awarded the decision nod following five competitive rounds of action.

“I feel really relieved because I’ve been working really hard, I’ve been training really hard,” said Tawanchai via an interpreter, noting that he was looking to rebound from recent performances where he didn’t feel as sharp in the ring.

Tawanchai’s two wins over Superbon, along with a 2023 victory over Jamal Yusupov and a win against Jo Nattawut from last year means he has defended his title a total of four times, passing the record of defences set by inaugural champ Petchmorakot Petchyindee in 2022.

Superbon, the promotion’s current kickboxing champ at 155 pounds, was trying for a second time to claim Muay Thai gold in the promotion. He was given another shot against Tawanchai after stopping Jo Nattawut in a Muay Thai fight last year and beating Marat Grigorian under kickboxing rules.

20-year-old Anane Punches Ticket To Rematch With Superlek

Nabil Anane’s fast rise in ONE Championship’s Muay Thai division reached a new high on Friday night, capturing an interim title at 145 pounds and confirming a future rematch against legendary fighter Superlek Kiatmoo9.

The towering Anane put together an impressively quick win over Nico Carrillo as part of Friday’s card, scoring a first-round stoppage to capture the promotion’s interim Muay Thai belt at 145 pounds.

Anane found striking success early on from his backfoot, scoring a right cross punch to the head of Carrillo for a knockdown just 90 seconds into the five-round fight. Roughly 30 seconds later, a head kick put the Scottish striker on the canvas once again.

With momentum heavily in his favor, Anane went from a backtracking fighter to an aggressive, advancing attacker. The fight didn’t last much longer shortly after Carrillo returned to his feet, getting floored with a series of punches with just 25 seconds to go in the round, ending the fight.

Anane’s title victory this weekend came following a lengthy winning streak in the promotion, piecing together five consecutive Muay Thai victories since September 2023. Previous appearances included wins over names like Felipe Lobo and Kulabdam Sor Jor Piek Uthai.

The latest performance for Anane books him a title unification fight against Superlek as part of ONE 172 on March 23rd in Japan. The matchup provides a chance for Anane to become the undisputed champ in the division and more importantly avenge a June 2023 loss he took to Superlek, where he was stopped in a little over two minutes.

“I will be prepared for that,” an emotional Anane said through an interpreter in his post-fight interview. “I will only need a few days of rest, then I will go back to the gym and work hard. And I will be better than this.”

Carrillo entered this week having not lost since 2019, including four previous appearances on ONE Championship programming. He was returning after a win over veteran talent Saemapetch Fairtex last July, stopping him in the third round. He was originally scheduled to meet Superlek as part of ONE 170 but was instead given an interim fight after the champ withdrew.
