Valentina Shevchenko made the third defence of her UFC Flyweight Championship on Saturday, stopping Katlyn Chookagian in the third round with grounded strikes. The win came in the co-main event of UFC 247 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, USA.
Shevchenko was dominant throughout all three rounds of the fight. In the first round, Shevchenko cut Chookagian open with an elbow on the ground.
Shevchenko got another takedown early in the third round. She went into a crucifix position, landing strikes until the referee intervened.
After the fight, Shevchenko thanked people from her gym Tiger Muay Thai who were watching back in Phuket, Thailand on a Sunday morning.
She also mentioned that she was happy to be back in Houston, as she fought in Houston-based promotion Legacy FC before her UFC career.
The win is the third defence of UFC Flyweight Championship from Shevchenko. She first earned the belt in early 2018, going to the scorecards against Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
In the fight before on the card, Justin Tafa stopped Juan Adams with strikes in a heavyweight clash. The main event of the evening saw Jon Jones put his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship on the line against undefeated Dominick Reyes.
