UFC posted a graphic of their entire card for UFC 249 on Twitter Monday night. The 12-fight card includes six matchups that were not reported before.
The new headlining matchup sees Tony Ferguson fight Justin Gaethje for the interim UFC Lightweight Championship. The card retained it’s co-main event fight between former UFC Strawweight Champions Jessica Andrade and Rose Namajunas.
A breakdown of the card
The highest listed new fight on the card sees heavyweights Greg Hardy and Yorgan De Castro fight. The match was originally meant to happen on March 28th.
Also originally planned for the UFC Columbus card was Francis Ngannou versus Jairzinho Rozenstruick, which was reported earlier today.
Welterweights Vicente Luque and Niko Price were matched up for this show as well. They were not set to fight eachother before, but their previous fights were cancelled due to COVID-19.
Alexander Hernandez found a new opponent in Omar Morales for this card. His original opponent was meant to be Islam Makhachev, although due to travel bans the fight was cancelled.
Marlon Vera, who was meant to fight Eddie Wineland before on a different card will now battle against Ray Borg. Borg was not booked for a fight before, last competing in February.
The new opponent for Khama Worthy is Michael Johnson, per the tweet. Worthy was meant to fight Ottman Azaitar initially. Johnson was meant to compete later this month, facing Evan Dunham on a ESPN+ card.
The last new fight that was announced was between Ryan Spann and Sam Alvey. The light heavyweights were both booked against different opponents before.
Some fights were preserved
The card also kept Jeremy Stephens versus Calvin Katter, as well as Uriah Hall versus Jacare Souza. Lower down on the card, the matchup between Sijara Eubanks and Sarah Moras also stayed intact.
The location for UFC 249 has not been announced yet.
