Fights Announced For UFC May 13th and 16th Events

Along with UFC’s event scheduled for May 9th, the promotion is set to hold two more events at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, USA. Fights for those cards were revealed by UFC President Dana White on Friday via Youtube.

Top Fights on Each Night

The Wednesday show is set to be headlined between light heavyweights Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira. This fight was originally meant to happen in April, being moved to this show due to COVID-19. Teixeira is on a three-fight winning streak, most recently defeating Nikita Krylov in September.

The co-main event of the card is set to be Ovince Saint-Preux facing Ben Rothwell at heavyweight. Both fighters won in their last fight, snapping their previous losing streaks.

A few days later, UFC will return on Saturday with a show headlined by Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris. Harris rides a two-fight winning streak heading into the matchup against the veteran heavyweight. The meeting between these two fighters was first scheduled for April 11th.

In a co-main event of the show, Claudia Gadelha is scheduled to fight Angela Hill. Hill is undefeated in her last three fights. Gadelha’s last win was a decision win over Randa Markos.

On the broadcast, it was also mentioned that Tyron Woodley is being targeted as a main event for an upcoming show too.

Other Wednesday Matchups

Three other fights apart from the main event and co-main are booked for the Wednesday show. High up on the card is a lightweight matchup between Drew Dober and Alexander Hernandez.

Also on the card, Ray Borg is set to go back up to bantamweight, fighting Ricky Simon. In his last fight, Borg defeated Rogerio Bontorin via decision but missed weight for the 125-pound meeting.

What will kick off the main card is a battle between middleweights Karl Roberson and Marvin Vettori.

The preliminary card is four fights currently, with Andrei Arlovski fighting Philipe Lins at the top. This is the promotional debut for Lins, who last fought in the PFL, winning the 2018 season.

Both coming off of losses, Michael Johnson and Thiago Moises will match up on the preliminary card as well.

Bantamweights Sijara Eubanks and Sarah Moras are also scheduled for the prelims.

Scheduled to kick off the program, Brian “Boom” Kelleher will be put up against undefeated Hunter Azure.

Saturday Night’s Card

Before the two top fights on the May 16th card, the main card will include three other matchups. The highest of the three is Dan Ige and Edson Barboza. Ige is undefeated through his last five matchups, last losing in early 2018. Barboza looks to get back in the win column after being unsuccessful in his last two showings.

Also on the main card, Eryk Anders will take a middleweight matchup against Krzysztof Jotko. The fighters have had an identical past few years, both snapping three-fight losing streaks with two wins in a row.

The final main card fight that was announced was between Song Yagong and Marlon Vera. Yadong had his seven-fight winning streak interrupted last December, going to a draw against Cody Stamann. This is Vera’s fourth fight booked amid COVID-19, with the past three being cancelled. His past opponents were set to be Jimmie Rivera, Eddie Wineland and Ray Borg. He has been undefeated in his past five appearances.

On the preliminary portion of the card, Kevin Holland is booked for a middleweight fight against Anthony Hernandez. Hernandez is 1-1 in the UFC, having debuted in 2019. Holland looks to bounce back from a loss to Brendan Allen.

Also on the card is a featherweight battle between Giga Chikadze and Mike Davis. Chikadze won both of his two appearances since debuting in the UFC. Davis sports one win and one loss.

Two flyweights in Cortney Casey and Mara Romero Borella will both look to win again on the prelims.

Kicking off the preliminary card will be two heavyweights that come from Dana White’s Contender Series. Don’Tale Mayes, who lost his debut in October will look to redeem himself, fighting undefeated Rodrigo Nascimento, who is making his UFC debut.
