UFC Jacksonville: Edson Barboza vs. Dan Ige Play-by-Play

Moving down to featherweight, Edson Barboza faces Dan Ige on the main card of UFC Jacksonville. Here’s how the three-round battle went.

Bout 9: Edson Barboza (20-8) vs. Dan Ige (13-2) (Featherweight)

Ige pressed forward with hooks to the head in the first minute. Barboza landed a hook of jis own that dropped Ige. Barboza took top position on the ground. Barboza started to throw hammerfist punches from top position eventually, stopping before they got back up with three minutes left. Ige went back to pressing forward with strikes. Ige was landing more, however Barboza would answer back every once in a while as well. A small cut opened under the right eye of Ige.

Ige landed a fast series of strikes to start the second round. The high tempo of strikes from both of them continued in this round. Ige was slightly leading the striking battle. Barboza connected with a knee to the body that seemingly hurt Ige, however he did not capitalize on it. In the final minute of the round, Barboza got a takedown, scoring with ground and pound before the round ended.

Ige was able to get a takedown with over a minute left in the third round. They stayed on the ground until time ran out. The striking slowed down in the third round, but still was quite even. Needing scorecards to find a winner, it was decided that (29-28 Barboza, 29-28 Ige & 29-28 Ige).

RESULT: Dan Ige def. Edson Barboza via Decision, Split
