An August fight night from UFC has seen two fight bookings lately, including a main event bout between Holly Holm and Irene Aldana. First reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN, the five-round fight is expected to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
“The Preacher’s Daughter,” Holm, is no stranger to five-round fights, this being the ninth of her career. The Jackson Wink MMA fighter bounced back from a failed championship push against Amanda Nunes in early 2020, defeating Raquel Pennington via decision at UFC 246.
A win for Aldana would move her winning streak to three, putting her tying up her current run of wins with her 2018 rally. Late 2019 wins for Aldana came against Vanessa Melo and Ketlen Vieira.
Derek Brunson vs. Edmen Shahbazyan
Also added to the show was a matchup between Edmen Shahbazyan and Derek Brunson, per a prior report from Brett Okamoto of ESPN. The ranked middleweights are both riding impressive winning streaks heading into the show.
Since losing to now-UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya in late 2018, Brunson has since picked up two wins, defeating Elias Theodorou and Ian Heinisch.
Shahbazyan is one of the fastest rising fighters in the UFC, winning his three appearances in the UFC within a round each. He looks to extend his undefeated MMA record to 12-0 in August.
Here’s the card for UFC’s August 1st event so far.
