Ray Borg has been pulled from his Saturday night matchup against Merab Dvalishvili, with Gustavo Lopez replacing him. First reported by Damon Martin and Mike Heck of MMA Fighting, the fight will be Lopez’s UFC debut.
In what was originally a 135-pound bantamweight match, Dvalishvili and Lopez will battle at a catchweight of 140-pounds.
Borg’s sudden departure from the card came on Friday, citing a family emergency, per Marc Raimondi of ESPN.
There was some confusion on Thursday, as Combate Americas founder Campbell McLaren claimed contractual issues would keep Lopez from the appearance.
Bad move from @Gustavo11Lopez [Lopez] he’s under contract with @combateamericas,” said McLaren after the news broke. Whatever complications there were got cleared up, with McLaren tweeting “Combate Americas has decided to allow @Gustavo11Lopez to move forward and fight in the UFC this Saturday night,” later on.
Dvalishvili heads into his now-catchweight bout on a three-fight winning streak, all being decision wins in the UFC.
Lopez, a Combate Americas Bantamweight Champion, has defended his belt in his last two fights, which were both first-round finishes.
