UFC Fight Night: Roxanne Modafferi vs. Lauren Murphy Play-by-Play

MMA veteran Roxanne Modafferi returned on Saturday night to face Lauren Murphy. Here’s how the fight went.

Bout 2: Roxanne Modafferi (24-16) vs. Lauren Murphy (12-4) (Flyweight)

They clinched up after Modafferi charged forward with a series of punches. Murphy was pressed against the cage for a minute or so before they separated again. Both fighters had their moments on the feet, landing singular shots on their opponent.

Murphy landed a right hand early in the second round that had Modafferi hurt, wobbling for a moment. Modafferi was seemingly able to recover. Modafferi clinched, putting Murphy against the cage with half of the round to go. Murphy was able to get a takedown from the position with just under two minutes to go. She landed a couple of punches before getting on the back of Modafferi. They got back up in a clinch, which made Murphy avoid being put on her back on the ground, as the ground work was moving into the position. Going to their knees for a moment, the fight stayed in the clinch until the round ended.

Modafferi threw some elbows early in the third round after her corner advised her to do so. Modafferi did another clinch after running forward with punches. They separated with half of the round left. They traded blows on the feet before Murphy got a takedown to end the fight. Going to the scorecards, the fight went to Murphy (30-27, 30-27 & 29-28).

RESULT: Lauren Murphy def. Roxanne Modafferi via Decision, Unanimous
