Only shortly after Dusko Todorovic was pulled from UFC’s July 15th show he was replaced, as Khamzat Chimaev will step in to fight John Phillips on the show. The matchup was first reported by Igor Lazorin via Instagram.
Todorovic was taken off the show on Wednesday “due to a potential medical issue,” per a report from John Morgan of MMA Junkie. Only hours later did it come out that a new opponent was lined up for Phillips.
Phillips now loses his third chance at facing Todorovic, as the bout was originally planned to happen on March 20th and 21st as well. His last fight came in September, where Phillips stopped Alen Amedovski in the first minute with an overhand left. The fight was his first win in the UFC, ending a three-fight losing streak.
Chimaev, a former regular to Abu Dhabi-based MMA promotion Brave CF will be making his UFC debut on the card. The Swedish fighter has an undefeated record with six wins, including his most recent one from October.
