John Castaneda Replaces Umar Nurmagomedov, Fighting Nathaniel Wood on July 25th UFC Card

After Umar Nurmagomedov withdrew from his July 25th fight against Nathaniel Wood, a new opponent has been found in John Castaneda. The new booking was first reported by Nolan King and Simon Head of MMA Junkie.

Castaneda, a regular of MMA promotion Combate Americas will be making his UFC debut. His last fight, alebit over a year ago, was a win over Marcelo Rojo, stopping him with an arm triangle choke in the third round.

Castaneda fought on UFC TV show “Dana White’s Contender Series” in 2017, defeating Cheyden Leialoha on the program. Despite the win, Castaneda was not offered a UFC contract.

Wood has a new opponent, but the goal remains to bounce back from his first UFC loss. An eight-fight streak of wins including fights in Cage Warriors, Bellator and UFC was ended in February by John Dodson, who stopped Wood early in the third round.

The July 25th “Fight Night” is set to happen at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. Headlining the show is a five-round middleweight fight between Robert Whittaker and Darren Till. Here’s the updated card.
