A middleweight matchup between Julian Marquez and Saparbeg Safarov has been added to UFC’s August 29th event. First reported by Farah Hannoun of MMA Junkie, the matchup will see both fighters look for their second UFC win.
Safarov has fought in the UFC since 2016, however, the Russian has only fought four times in that period. After two losses, Safarov defeated Nick Negumereanu for his first UFC victory in 2019. He lost last March to Rodolfo Vieira.
Marquez was scouted through the first season of TV series “Dana White’s Contender Series,” after stopping Phil Hawes in the second round. He followed that up with a debut UFC win over Darren Stewart.
His most recent matchup didn’t favour him as Alessio Di Chirico won a split decision. With that fight happening in 2018, this fight will be the return of Marquez after a two-year layoff.
