The co-main event of UFC’s “Fight Night” on Wednesday saw flyweights Tim Elliott and Ryan Benoit battle. The fight went like this.
Bout 10: Tim Elliott (15-11-1) vs. Ryan Benoit (10-6) (Flyweight)
The striking from the fighters started slow with the pace heating up as the round progressed. Benoit landed head kicks in the round. Benoit showed his takedown defence, staying on the feet after Elliott tried for a takedown. Benoit landed with a hard body punch in the final minute, stopping another takedown moments after. Elliott finally got a takedown with 30 seconds to go, but Benoit was able to get up quickly. Elliott got another takedown to end the round.
After a good striking performance in the first half of the round, Benoit got a takedown halfway through the round. Elliott slipped in a guillotine choke from the bottom, flipping over into top position while still holding the choke. Benoit eventually slipped out, although he was on his back with Elliott in full mount. Benoit tried for a kneebar after Elliott tried to move from full guard. Elliott was clearly in lots of pain, although he was able to escape the move. The fighters got up with a minute left in the fight. Benoit got a takedown as the round ended.
Elliott landed elbows and punches in the clinch to start the third round. Benoit landed combinations of punches on the feet in this round. The damage was showing much more on Elliott’s face. Benoit threw a combination of punches when leaving a clinch before the round ran out of time. A unanimous decision went to Elliott in the end (29-28, 29-28 & 29-28).
RESULT: Tim Elliott def. Ryan Benoit via Decision, Unanimous
