UFC Fight Night: Calvin Kattar vs. Dan Ige Play-by-Play

In the main event of UFC’s Wednesday night show, ranked featherweights Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige battled. Their five-round matchup panned out like this.

Bout 11: Calvin Kattar (21-4) vs. Dan Ige (14-2) (Featherweight)

Ige was the only fighter throwing punches early on, although none of the strikes were connecting clean. Ige failed to get a takedown halfway through the round, landing on his back on the ground afterwards. Ige eventually got back to the feet where Kattar was. Ige countered with a right-cross after Kattar threw a punch in the fourth minute. Kattar caught a kick for a takedown moments after. Ige got back up, getting hit in the body with uppercuts afterwards. Ige cracked Kattar with a right hand to the head following a punch by Kattar. Kattar had an explosive end to the round, throwing a flying knee and some punches.

Ige was putting together strong combinations of punches in the second round. Kattar started to show damage around his nose due to the strikes. Kattar hurt Ige late in the round during an exchange of punches between the two.

Kattar walked Ige down for most of the third round. The striking was close in the round with damage showing on Ige’s face just as much at this point.

Ige got a takedown to start the fourth round, although Kattar got up immediately. Ige tried for a takedown after Kattar threw a kick. They went down, although Ige pulled guard in the process of going down and was on his back. They returned to the feet shortly after. The striking on the feet for the rest of the round was slower paced, although it was Kattar who was throwing and connecting more.

Kattar was the more active striker in the final round, putting on a similar performance to what he did in the fourth round. Ige tried for a single leg takedown in the third minute, with Kattar retreating to the fence to resist going down. Ige dropped in the closing seconds after failing for a takedown. Kattar went into top position where he threw hammerfist strikes until the round ran out of time. After five rounds, the judges chose Kattar as the winner (49-46, 49-46 & 48-47).

RESULT: Calvin Kattar def. Dan Ige via Decision, Unanimous
