In a bantamweight battle, Brett Johns faced Montel Jackson on the prelims of UFC’s show on Saturday. Here’s how the fight went.
Bout 4: Brett Johns (16-2) vs. Montel Jackson (9-1) (Bantamweight)
Johns clinched up with Jackson in the first minute of the fight. Jackson got a takedown from the clinch landing in full guard. Johns was able to get up shortly after and go into a body lock. Johns got his own takedown in the second minute, but Jackson was quick to get up. When they separated, a combination of punches dropped Johns. In full guard, Jackson scored with some elbows to the head. Johns tried for an armbar from the bottom, but Jackson escaped moments after.
They clinched up again early in the second round, with Johns getting Jackson to his knees. They left the clinch with three minutes to go in the round. Johns was able to get a takedown later in the round, getting on the back of Jackson. Johns tried for a rear naked choke from the back. Jackson flipped over eventually taking full guard on top. He stayed in this position until the round ended.
Johns tried for a single leg takedown in the first minute of the final round. Johns got a takedown from a clinch in the second minute, but Jackson was able to stand up and go back to striking. Jackson landed a knee, but Johns caught the knee after for a clinch which eventually gave him a takedown. Jackson got up and separated again. Another takedown came a minute later from Johns, who had full mount for a moment before Jackson stood up. They went back down where Johns had a guillotine choke. Jackson rolled out of the position and got to his feet again. The fight ended in a clinch position. After three rounds, a unanimous decision went to Johns (29-28, 29-28 & 29-28).
RESULT: Brett Johns def. Montel Jackson via Decision, Unanimous
