In the main event of UFC’s “Fight Night” on Saturday night, Deiveson Figueiredo and Joseph Benavidez battled in a rematch to become the third UFC Flyweight Champion. Here’s how the fight went.
Bout 12: Deiveson Figueiredo (18-1) vs. Joseph Benavidez (28-6) (Vacant UFC Flyweight Championship)
Early in the first minute a right hook dropped Benavidez. Figueiredo continued with punches and elbows in half guard. Benavidez gave up his back, where Figueiredo put in a rear naked choke. With the choke not getting under the chin, Figueiredo let the choke go. Figueiredo tried again for the choke, although this time it got under the chin of Benavidez. Benavidez was able to endure and escape the choke again. With Figueiredo still on his back, Benavidez got back to the feet. They returned to stand-up with half of the round to go. Another right hook dropped Benavidez in the fourth minute, although he was quick to stand back up. Figueiredo scored a third knockdown in the final minute. He went into full mount where he scored elbows. Getting on the back of Benavidez, Figueiredo put in a rear naked choke that put Benavidez to sleep.
