Bantamweights Bethe Correia and Pannie Kianzad battle on UFC’s “Fight Night” card on Saturday. Here’s how it went.
Bout 3: Bethe Correia (11-4-1) vs. Pannie Kianzad (12-5) (Bantamweight)
Correia tried for a single leg takedown in the first minute after ducking a punch, although Kianzad was able to resist it and get back to stand-up. Another takedown was stopped in the second minute. Kianzad was scoring with punches early on. Kianzad clinched in the third minute, landing knees and connecting with punches once leaving the position. Correia heard the 10 second clapping noise near the end of the round and thought it meant the fight ended. Because of this, Kianzad landed some punches to Correia, who had her guard down in the closing seconds.
Kianzad fell to the ground after throwing knees in the clinch early in the second round. The slip allowed Correia to take full guard on top. They got back to their feet with three minutes to go in the fight. The striking was close on the feet for the rest of the round with both Correia and Kianzad having their moments.
The fighters seemingly took turns rocking eachother with punches in the first half of the final round. Correia got a takedown halfway through the round after Kianzad landed clean shots before. Kianzad was quick to get back up and return to striking. Correia’s face was wearing the damage of the strikes she had taken. Kianzad scored a three-punch combination with a minute to go in the fight. Kianzad was able to keep a takedown attempt to a clinch in the final minute. Correia got a takedown, going into full guard before the round ran out of time. In the third consecutive fight of the evening to go to scorecards, the winner was selected as Kianzad (30-27, 30-27 & 29-28).
RESULT: Pannie Kianzad def. Bethe Correia via Decision, Unanimous
