UFC’s November 21st pay-per-view is set to have two flyweight championships on the line, as Valentina Shevchenko will fight Jennifer Maia and Deiveson Figueiredo will attempt to retain his belt for the first time, facing Cody Garbrandt. News of the two matchups was reported first by Brett Okamoto of ESPN.
Garbrandt Moves Down
Garbrandt, a former UFC Bantamweight Champion, will be making the move down to flyweight with a title shot. His last fight was his first win since 2016, stopping Raphael Assuncao with a second-round buzzer-beating knockout.
Figueiredo claimed the flyweight belt last July, stopping Joseph Benavidez in the first round with a rear naked choke. The fight extended his winning streak to four-in-a-row, also moving his UFC record to eight wins and one loss.
Maia Gets Shot At Belt
Maia’s championship booking comes shortly after her win in late July, where she stopped Joanne Calderwood with an armbar in the first round. The victory essentially bumped her ahead in the flyweight picture, as Calderwood was set to face Shevchenko earlier in the year before injury got in the way.
The fight was a short notice one for Calderwood, who was replacing Viviane Araujo.
Shevchenko has been the UFC Flyweight Champion for over a year now, first claiming the belt in December of 2018. Having defended the belt three times including a win last February over Katlyn Chookagian, Shevchenko has proven to be a champion who is hard to dethrone.
The championship double-header are currently the only bouts announced for UFC 255.
