TJ Brown and Danny Chavez fought on UFC’s prelims for UFC 252 on Saturday. The fight went like this.
Bout 4: TJ Brown (14-7) vs. Danny Chavez (10-3) (Featherweight)
Both fighters showed off their fast striking in the first round. Chavez was landing leg kicks throughout the round, with one of the kicks dropping Brown in the third minute of the round. Brown switched stances after being dropped due to the damage on his lead left leg. Brown landed a clean two-punch combination in the final minute after being hit with a leg kick. Brown was seemingly dropped again by a leg kick in the final minute, although he shot for a takedown in the process.
Chavez continued with leg kicks as the second round started. Brown was wobbled in the second minute of the round, struggling to find his balance after being hit by another leg kick. Brown landed a knee to the body before clinching in the second minute. Chavez slipped out of the position a few seconds after. Chavez landed a right cross in the third minute that hurt Brown. Brown went to the ground after being hit with three follow-up punches, with Chavez taking full guard when he went down. Chavez landed some strikes from above, although they got back to the feet within the minute. After a minute of stand-up, Brown went into a clinch with Chavez for the final 10 seconds of the round.
Brown shot for a takedown early in the final round, although Chavez was able to take top position on the ground. They got back to the feet only seconds after hitting the ground. A takedown in the second minute was stopped by Chavez. After throwing flailing strikes with Chavez, Brown went into a clinch after failing again to secure a takedown. Chavez got hurt in the third minute from a punch, although he was able to recover before Brown hit him with anything more. Brown was the advancing fighter in the round throughout, although Chavez was still able to stop all of his takedown attempts. Chavez got a takedown with a minute left in the fight. Brown worked his way up to his feet but was thrown back down by Chavez moments after. Chavez kept control of Brown until the fight ran out of time. Needing scorecards to find a winner, Chavez was picked as the winner (29-28, 29-28 & 29-28).
RESULT: Danny Chavez def. TJ Brown via Decision, Unanimous
