LFA 89: Moore vs. Giannetti Play-by-Play

Bout 1: Clayton Carpenter def. Manuel Medina via Decision, Unanimous

Bout 2: Joshua Fremd def. Lamar Gosey via KO, Knee (RD 1, 1:26)

Bout 3: Steve Jones def. Tyler Ray via Decision, Split

Bout 4: Ricardo Dias def. Desmond Torres via Decision, Split

Play-by-Play:

Bout 1: Clayton Carpenter (2-0) vs. Manuel Medina (0-0) (Flyweight)

Carpenter was quick to clinch with Medina in the first minute, putting him against the cage. Carpenter got a takedown a minute later, taking full guard on the ground. Carpenter went into half guard, progressing into full mount with two minutes left in the round. Carpenter threw numerous elbows along with some punches from the position.

Carpenter connected with hard strikes early in the second round, connecting with leg kicks and knees to Medine in the first minute. Carpenter got a takedown in the fourth minute of the fight after being the better striker on the feet. Carpenter landed some strikes from half guard until the round ended.

The final round was the closest one, as the fight stayed on the feet and held a slow pace of striking. Carpenter’s movement made it look like leg kicks might have hurt him. Going to the judges to find a winner, Carpenter was given all three scorecards despite differing scores (29-27, 29-28 & 30-27).

Bout 2: Joshua Fremd (4-1) vs. Lamar Gosey (3-0) (Light Heavyweight)

Gosey got a takedown in the first 10 seconds of the bout, getting on the back of Fremd when they went down. Fremd was able to escape the position, getting a partial half guard on top after. They worked back to their feet, where Fremd had a body lock on Gosey. From the back of Gosey, Fremd landed a knee to the head that knocked Gosey out, ending the fight. Gosey was bleeding heavily after the stoppage.

Bout 3: Tyler Ray (6-1) vs. Steve Jones (6-1) (Welterweight)

Jones was able to catch leg kicks early in the fight, dumping Ray following kick attempts. Ray was able to stop a takedown in the third minute of the round, keeping the fight to a clinch on the feet. Jones was the better striker on the feet in the first round. He landed a combination clean in the final minute of the round. Ray got a takedown to stop Jones’ momentum with strikes.

Ray shot for a takedown early in the second round after Jones threw a combination of punches. Jones was able to reverse the attempt and get a takedown of his own. They returned to the feet in the second minute of the round. Ray landed a right hook in the second minute that hurt Jones, knocking his mouthguard out. Jones shot for a takedown, and while they did go down, Ray tried for a guillotine choke from the bottom. Jones escaped the choke and kept full guard on top. Jones was able to escape the position and move into side control. Ray reversed the position, obtaining his own side control on top. Ray moved into full mount, trying to get on the back of Jones after. Jones stopped that attempt, using the failed shot to move back to the feet in a body lock. Ray tried for a takedown in the final minute of the round that Jones stopped.

Ray shot for a takedown in the second minute of the final round, although Jones only went to his knees. Jones moved into full mount on the ground, taking the back of Ray shortly after. Jones landed some short punches to Ray from the back. Jones moved into side control. Ray was able to transition into side control with 30 seconds left in the fight. He held the position until the round ran out of time. Needing judges to find a winner, Jones was given the split decision victory (29-28 Jones, 29-28 Ray & 29-28 Jones).

Bout 4: Desmond Torres (7-2) vs. Ricardo Dias (8-4) (Bantamweight)

Both fighters were throwing wild and fast strikes early in the fight. At some point in the exchange, Torres developed a cut on his head. Dias caught a leg kick in the first round for a takedown. Torres was quick to work back to his feet, although Dias was on his back with a body lock. Torres was able to eventually get Dias off of his back. Torres was advancing on the feet throughout the round.

While on his backfoot, Dias was landing a good amount of strikes in the second round. Torres put Dias against the cage for a moment in the fourth minute of the round. The punches that dias landed were clean and sounded hard.

Torres got a takedown early in the third round, although Dias was quick to get back to the feet. Like in the round before, Dias was landing the harder punches. Torres scored another takedown in the third minute of the fight from a clinch. He was able to get into full mount only moments after. He went into full guard in the final minute. They returned to the feet moments before the round ran out of time. Needing judges to find a winner, a split decision went to Dias (29-28 Torres, 29-28 Dias & 29-28 Dias).

Bout 5: Demarques Jackson (10-4) vs. Adrian Hadribeaj (10-1) (Welterweight)

Jackson was dropped early by a leg kick. He got up and was able to score a takedown seconds after. Jackson was on the back of Hadribeaj on the ground. Jackson tried for a rear naked choke in the fourth minute of the fight, with Hadribeaj tapping out shortly after.

Bout 6: Brant Moore Jr. (6-1) vs. Joe Giannetti (9-2-1) (Lightweight)

Giannetti put Moore Jr. in a clinch against the cage in the first minute of action. After numerous minutes in a clinch, Moore Jr. got a takedown. Moore Jr. held the top position from side control. Moving into half guard, Moore Jr. kept in control on the ground. He stayed in control until the round concluded.

With less time on the feet in the second round, Moore Jr. got another takedown from a clinch in the first minute of the second round. Moore Jr. moved into side control after Giannetti threatened a guillotine choke for a moment. Giannetti escaped the position after trying for a kneebar. They got to the feet in a body lock with half of the round left. Moore Jr. got a takedown in the fourth minute of the round, landing in full mount. Giannetti escaped the position after getting ahold of one of Moore Jr’s legs late in the round.

Giannetti tried for a single leg takedown to start the third round. They went down in the first minute, with Giannetti getting on the back of Moore Jr. after Moore Jr. attempted a keylock. Moore Jr. eventually moved into side control on top. Moore Jr. got up in the fourth minute of the round, getting back to the ground into full guard. He passed into side control seconds after. Moore Jr. tried for an arm triangle choke, transitioning into side control again while attempting it. Losing the choke, Moore Jr. moved into full mount and threw some punches to end the fight. Moore Jr. got a sweep on the scorecards after three rounds (30-27, 30-27 & 30-27).
