In the main event of Saturday’s UFC show, light heavyweights Anthony Smith and Aleksandar Rakic fought in a three-round matchup. Here’s how it panned out.
Bout 10: Anthony Smith (33-15) vs. Aleksandar Rakic (12-2) (Light Heavyweight)
The fighters traded leg kicks to start the first round. Smith was dropped in the second minute of the fight due to leg kicks. They got back up, with Smith mounting on the back of Rakic. They went back down to the ground with Rakic on top. Rakic kept control on the ground until the round ended.
Rakic landed another leg kick to start the second round. Smith landed a hard right hook, clinching with Rakic after. Rakic was able to seemingly toss Smith to the ground from the clinch. Rakic threw short punches from full and half guard until the round ran out of time.
Rakic scored a left hook early in the third round that wobbled Smith. Rakic threw head kicks and punches that backed Smith up. Smith clinched with Rakic, although Smith fell and landed on his back, giving Rakic top position on the ground again. The referee, Herb Dean, was quick to warn the fighters to stay active on the ground this time. Rakic eventually got on the back of Smith where he threw knees to the back of Smith’s right thigh. Smith got to his feet, although Rakic was quick to take him back down from a clinch. Rakic got to his feet for the final few moments of the fight. After three rounds, it was clear that Rakic would get the win (30-26, 30-27 & 30-27).
RESULT: Aleksandar Rakic def. Anthony Smith via Decision, Unanimous
