Kicking off UFC’s four-fight main card on Saturday, Ricardo Lamas fought promotional newcomer Bill Algeo. Here’s how their matchup went.
Bout 7: Ricardo Lamas (19-8) vs. Bill Algeo (13-4) (Featherweight)
Lamas was able to get ahold of Algeo’s neck while on the feet in the first minute. Algeo eventually separated and returned to striking. The featherweights fought in a clinch against the cage for a moment in the second round. Algeo had a good finish to the round, backing Lamas up against the cage with strikes. The fighters got in each other’s faces after the round ran out of time.
Lamas shot for a takedown early in the second round that Algeo was able to resist at first. Lamas got a takedown while on the back of Algeo, although Algeo was able to get back to his feet shortly after. Algeo stopped a takedown attempt in the second minute of the round. A strike cut Lamas open at some point in the round. Algeo landed a series of elbows to Lamas while he tried for a takedown. Lamas got hurt by a punch in the fourth minute of the fight. Algeo got a takedown after, although Lamas was able to stand up into a clinch shortly after.
After fighting for a takedown for almost a minute, Lamas took Algeo to the ground. Lamas got on the back of Algeo, landing elbows to the head of Algeo from the position. Algeo was able to get back to his feet in the fourth minute, although Lamas was able to take him down again. Getting on the back of Algeo again, Lamas throw some punches to the head of Algeo. He finished the round with full mount with elbows. Going to the scorecards after 15 minutes of action, Lamas was given the unanimous decision win (29-27, 29-27 & 29-27).
