In the co-main event slot of Saturday’s UFC “Fight Night,” Robbie Lawler competed against fellow welterweight Neil Magny. The fight went like this.
Bout 9: Robbie Lawler (28-14) vs. Neil Magny (23-7) (Welterweight)
Lawler tried for a takedown in the first minute of the fight, although Magny was able to stop the attempt. Magny was able to keep a body lock against Lawler on the feet. Getting on the back of Lawler, Magny tried for a choke for a moment while on the feet still. Magny got a takedown from a body lock, although Lawler was able to take top control. They got back up with two minutes left in the fight. Magny secured a double leg takedown with just over a minute left in the fight. Magny stayed in control on the ground with small punches until the round ended.
Magny shot for a takedown after landing a head kick and punch to Lawler. Getting a takedown, Magny took top control in half guard. Magny got on the back of Lawler shortly after. Magny tried for a rear naked choke for a moment. Lawler got back to his feet in the final minute, although Magny landed some knees to the body before leaving a clinch.
Magny pulled guard after Lawler landed a punch in the first minute of the third round. The referee stood them up after a minute or so of inactivity from the position. Magny got a takedown in the third minute of the round, getting on Lawler’s back as well. Lawler was quick to stand up, although Magny kept him against the cage after for a second. Magny finished the round with a few good jabs to the head. Magny got the decision win after three rounds (30-27, 30-27 & 30-27).
RESULT: Neil Magny def. Robbie Lawler via Decision, Unanimous
