UFC’s prelims on Saturday featured a fight between Zak Cummings and Alessio Di Chirico. The matchup went like this.
Bout 5: Zak Cummings (23-7) vs. Alessio Di Chirico (12-4) (Middleweight)
The first round saw both fighters exchange strikes at a slow pace on the feet. While it was clear that hard punches were connecting, neither fighter was being visibly shaken. Cummings was connecting with the cleaner punches. Di Chirico strung together some punches late in the round on Cummings.
Cummings connected with left hooks in the second round. He was often able to land the left hand after setting it up with a right. Di Chirico seemingly got shaken late in the round by a punch.
A pause came in the fourth minute after a kick hit Di Chirico in the groin. Before they resumed, the referee urged them to pick up the pace of the action. The fighters traded punches late in the final round. The exchange ended with a head kick that dropped Di Chirico just before the round ran out of time. Di Chirico fell while trying to get back up after being dropped by a head kick. Needing judges to select a winner, the bout went to Cummings (29-28, 29-28 & 30-27).
RESULT: Zak Cummings def. Alessio Di Chirico via Decision, Unanimous
