Returning after her late 2019 loss to Jessica Eye, Viviane Araujo fought Montana De La Rosa on Saturday night. Here’s how their fight went.
Bout 2: Montana De La Rosa (11-5) vs. Viviane Araujo (8-2) (Flyweight)
Araujo connected with a clean right hand to the body in the first minute of the fight. She was also connecting with kicks to the lead leg of De La Rosa. Like she has in fights before, Araujo was landing overhand rights to the head. De La Rosa caught Araujo for a takedown in the third minute, although Araujo was able to get up quickly in a clinch. De La Rosa switched stances for a moment in the third minute after another leg kick connected. De La Rosa started to bleed from the nose in the fourth minute. De La Rosa went into a body lock for a minute in the final round, although Araujo separated shortly after. Araujo dodged a takedown moments after. Araujo shot for a takedown although it was stopped by the round ending.
The leg kicks continued to connect in the second round for Araujo. De La Rosa had a takedown attempt stopped in the second minute of the round. De La Rosa continued to bleed in the second round. De La Rosa was throwing and often connecting with strikes on the backfoot, as Araujo continued to press forward. The fighters were essentially trading punches late in the round.
Starting the final round, De La Rosa put Araujo against the cage and landed a few punches. Araujo continued to land jabs against De La Rosa. Like the rounds before, Araujo was the advancing fighter in the final round. De La Rosa tried for a takedown in the final minute of the round. Araujo backed up against the cage and eventually separated from De La Rosa. Araujo won the fight after three rounds (30-27, 30-27 & 29-28).
