A flyweight matchup between Brandon Royval and Kai Kara-France was awarded the “Fight of the Night” bonus for Saturday’s UFC 253 card from Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Along with the award was “Performance of the Night” bonuses handed to champions Jan Blachowicz and Israel Adesanya.
All fighters given bonuses have been awarded an extra $50,000 along with their previously negotiated fight purses.
The “Fight of the Night” ended saw Royval stop Kara-France in the second round via guillotine choke. Prior to the stoppage, the fight had a hectic first round that saw both fighters drop each other with strikes.
The win Royval’s first since his UFC debut in the summer.
Main event fighter Adesanya was given a bonus for his two-round title defence over Paulo Costa. Adesanya closed out the fight in the ninth minute, dropping Costa with a left hook.
Adesanya has defended his UFC Middleweight Championship twice now since defeating Robert Whittaker last October to first claim it.
Newly crowned Blachowicz was also awarded a bonus following his win over Dominick Reyes. The mostly slow-paced fight increased greatly late in the second round, where Blachowicz charged forward with punches and eventually scored a knockdown on Reyes.
Blachowicz won the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship in the bout.
