Sam-A Gaiyanghadao successfully defended his ONE Strawweight Muay Thai Championship on Friday, defeating Josh Tonna in the second round by scoring three knockdowns.
The fight was the main event of ONE’s “Reign of Dynasties” card, which was the promotion’s first in Singapore since the outbreak of COVID-19 forced the promotion to stop events.
The fights took place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium without a live crowd.
Two of the three knockdowns in the second round came from powerful left crosses from Sam-A that floored Tonna. The fight concluded due to a three knockdown rule in the end.
Tonna had previously won a Muay Thai bout in ONE last February, stopping Andy Howson in the second round.
McLaren Wins In Return To ONE
Reece McLaren stopped the undefeated streak of Aleksi Toivonen in the co-main event, finishing the fight within a round with strikes. A knee to the body dropped Toivnonen in the final minute of the round, putting an end to the fight.
McLaren scored a knockdown in the minute before, dropping Toivonen with a right cross. His constant pressure on the feet allowed him to connect frequently.
The win was the first in 2020 for McLaren, a former ONE Featherweight Champion.
Toivonen previously won his ONE debut, defeating Akihiro Fujisawa in July of 2019.
Elbow Takes Khan Back Into Win Column
Amir Khan put an abrupt end to his fight on the card, dropping Rahul Raju with an elbow in the first round. The fight stopped after follow-up punches from Khan on the ground.
The fight was Khan’s return to the win column. A veteran of the promotion, Khan had only won once in his previous five fights.
The loss for Raju stopped the two-win momentum he gained in 2019.
Saputra Wins With Special Kimura
Eko Roni Saputra got a quick win in the third bout, catching Murugan Silvarajoo in the third minute with an americana. The submission had a rare modification, as Saputra used his legs to help apply the hold.
The win ended a strong year-long run in ONE for Saputra, winning other Kaji Ebin and Khon Sichan.
Hexigetu Takes Dejdamrong To Scorecards
Hexigetu earned his third consecutive win in ONE on the card, taking Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke to a split decision. The victory saw Hexigetu dominate Dejdamrong with takedowns in all three rounds.
Hexigetu attempted a guillotine choke late in the first round that Dejdamrong survived.
Mainam Stops Liu With Rear Naked Choke
Roshan Mainam kicked off the card with a win, stopping Liu Peng Shuai in the second round with a rear naked choke. The choke came after strikes from Mainam in full mount made Liu turn around and give up his back.
Successful in his return, Mainam won his second-straight fight in the promotion. His previous fight was in November of 2019, defeating Khon Sichan within a round with an americana.
