UFC on ESPN+ 37: Tagir Ulanbekov vs. Bruno Silva Play-by-Play

Kicking off Saturday’s UFC “Fight Night” card, flyweights Tagir Ulanbekov and Bruno Silva faced off. Here’s how their matchup went.

Bout 1: Tagir Ulanbekov (12-1) vs. Bruno Silva (10-5-2) (Flyweight)

Both fighters connected with calf kicks in the opening minute of the fight. Silva connected with a two-punch combination to the body and head in the second minute. Silva continued to land clean leg kicks. Silva landed a hard right hand in the third minute of the fight. Silva got a takedown halfway through the round, although Ulanbekov was quick to get back to the feet in a clinch. Ulanbekov got a takedown of his own from the clinch. Silva returned to the feet with a minute-and-a-half left in the round. Ulanbekov stopped a takedown in the final minute of the round.

A cut at the end of Silva’s right eyebrow opened at the start of the second round. Ulanbekov was able to connect with punches early in the first round. He scored a takedown from a body lock in the second minute of the round. Ulanbekov moved into half guard, throwing head punches periodically from the position. Silva worked back to his feet with half of the round left, although Ulanbekov was quick to take him back down. Ulanbekov got on the back of Silva as they stood up again. Ulanbekov slipped off the back of Silva, landing on his back on the ground. They got up to the feet, going into a clinch. Ulanbekov scored another takedown in the fourth minute of the round. Back on the feet, Silva was able to finish the round with a takedown of his own.

Both fighters connected with hard punches early in the final round. Silva stopped a takedown attempt in the second round of the round. He resisted another takedown a minute later, throwing Ulanbekov down for two takedowns after. Silva took full guard on top, getting to the feet after Ulanbekov attempted to sweep the position. Ulanbekov scored a double leg takedown in the fourth minute of the round. He got on the back of Silva as they worked up to the feet. They went back down, although Silva was able to take control on the ground. After being in a clinch, the fighter landed punches for the final 20 seconds of the fight. Ulanbekov was given the win after three rounds of action (30-27, 29-28 & 29-28).

RESULT: Tagir Ulanbekov def. Bruno Silva via Decision, Unanimous
