Returning for his first fight since 2018, Brian Ortega fought Chan Sung Jung, AKA “The Korean Zombie” on Saturday’s UFC “Fight Night” card. Their five-round matchup went like this.
Bout 11: Brian Ortega (14-1) vs. The Korean Zombie (16-5) (Featherweight)
Ortega landed a hard leg kick to start the fight. The first round started slow as the fighters seemingly looked to figure each other out. Zombie would be the fighter constantly advancing, although Ortega would jab forward every once in a while. Ortega caught a leg kick in the fourth minute and landed a hook after that knocked Zombie down. Zombie was quick to return to his feet.
Zombie threw a combo of punches at Ortega in the first minute of the second round. Ortega shot for a single leg takedown in the second minute of the round that Zombie denied. Ortega landed a spinning elbow to the head while Zombie charged at him in the final minute of the round. Zombie was quick to return to the feet. Ortega scored a takedown with 30 seconds left in the round, although Zombie was able to return to his feet. Ortega put Zombie back down before the round ended.
The third round saw a slow pace of striking between the two fighters as opposed to the rounds before. Zombie stopped a takedown attempt in the final minute of the round.
Ortega looked for a single leg takedown, landing a strike after backing him up against the cage. Ortega took Zombie down after opening up a cut with the strike. The referee paused the fight when they returned to the feet so the doctor could check out the cut on his face. Ortega failed to land a takedown in the closing seconds of the round.
Zombie walked down Ortega for the majority of the fight, although Ortega held his own on the backfoot throughout the round. Ortega won all of the rounds in the end (50-45, 50-45 & 50-45).
RESULT: Brian Ortega def. The Korean Zombie via Decision, Unanimous
