Sam Alvey aimed to disrupt his four-fight losing streak on the UFC 254 prelims when he fought Da Un Jung. Here’s how their fight went.
Bout 3: Da Un Jung (13-2) vs. Sam Alvey (33-14) (Light Heavyweight)
Minimal strikes were thrown from either fighter early on, although Jung was backing Alvey up against the cage. Alvey rocked Jung with a left hook in the third minute of the round. Jung came forward with punches in the fourth minute of the round. Alvey motioned that he might have been poked in the eye. Alvey sprung forward with some combinations of punches. He was able to land punches while Jung came forward with strikes as well.
Like the first round, Jung walked Alvey down on the feet. Despite being the aggressor on the feed, Alvey was throwing and landing a higher pace of punches. Alvey landed a hard uppercut in the final minute of the round that snapped Jung’s head back.
Jung landed an elbow early in the final round that dropped Alvey. He got on the back of Alvey after he returned to the feet. A cut opened around Alvey’s not in the second minute of the fight. They returned to the stand-up striking with over three minutes left. A right hand wobbled Alvey on the feet in the third minute of the round. The fighters went into a clinch in the fourth minute of the round. Jung left the clinch with an elbow that wobbled Alvey again. Needing scorecards to find a winner (29-28 Jung, 29-28 Alvey & 28-28).
RESULT: Sam Alvey vs. Da Un Jung via Decision, Draw
