Positive COVID-19 Tests Take Veta Arteaga and Nick Newell Off of Bellator 250

Thursday night’s Bellator card is down to eight fights in total after positive COVID-19 tests took Veta Arteaga and Nick Newell out of their respective bouts.

The removal of both fighters was first reported by Alexander K. Lee of MMA Fighting, with news later coming out by Ariel Helwani of ESPN that they were both due to COVID-19 tests.

Bellator 250 is scheduled to happen at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, USA on Thursday night.

Arteaga was set to fight on the main card of the show against Desiree Yanez. With a spot to fill on the TV program, Bellator has moved the fight between Ty Gwerder and Dalton Rosta up to the main card.

Yanez announced her positive test on Thursday morning via Instagram.

“I really don’t know what to say other than I was more than ready for battle and still am,” said Yanez, who was scheduled to make her Bellator debut.

Newell released a statement on Instagram as well, saying he currently feels fine despite the positive test.

“Physically I am fine no symptoms. Taking another test ASAP to make sure its not a false positive,” said Newell.

Newell was scheduled for his third Bellator appearance, being matched against Zach Zane.

The preliminary card streamed on Youtube has been bumped ahead by 45 minutes, now with a start time of 6:00PM EDT.
