Saturday’s preliminary card kicked off with a bantamweight fight between Miles Johns and Kevin Natividad. Here’s how the UFC debut for Natividad went.
Bout 1: Miles Johns (10-1) vs. Kevin Natividad (9-1) (Bantamweight)
Johns shot for a takedown a minute into the fight. Natividad was able to back up to the fence while resisting the attempt. Johns would connect with his lead jab periodically in the round. Johns landed a single leg takedown in the third minute of the round. Natividad was able to spring up to his feet moments after. Johns looked for another takedown after Natividad threw a combination of punches. Johns got Natividad down, although like the takedown before, Natividad was able to get the fight back to the feet shortly after.
While not connecting with a high volume, Natividad walked Johns down for the first minute of the second round. Johns scored another takedown in the second minute of the round, although Natividad returned to his feet quickly after. Johns pressed Natividad against the cage after they returned to the feet. The referee eventually separated them from the position. Johns continued to land his jab when Natividad would charge towards him. Natividad had a takedown blocked in the final minute of the round. Johns landed a spinning backfist after leaving a clinch in the minute. Johns put Natividad against the fence as the round ran out of time.
Natividad’s corner told him he was down two rounds heading into the third. Natividad was aggressive in the third round, coming at Johns with strikes. Johns was able to land on his backfoot, connecting with a clean counter left hook in the first minute of the third round. A takedown attempt by Johns was stopped in the third minute of the round. Johns landed an uppercut in the clinch that dropped Natividad and ended the fight.
