Kevin Holland has been pulled from his December 5th UFC main event against Jack Hermansson recently after testing positive for COVID-19. The news was announced by Holland on Saturday afternoon.
The fight was set to be in the main event of a “Fight Night” card from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
“Hoping to test clean and get back inside the cage ASAP,” said Holland via Twitter.
UFC is looking to move Marvin Vettori into the main event, pulling him from a December 12th fight against Jacare Souza, per Ariel Helwani of ESPN.
Hollands removal from the fight takes him out of a history-making scenario, as he could have potentially been the only UFC fighter to win five times in 2020.
Holland last competed in October, defeating Charlie Ontiveros early in the fight due to injury. The win was Holland’s third within a three-month timespan. His December 5th fight would have been his first five-round fight since competing on the regional scene.
The fight is now one of the numerous which has been scrapped due to COVID-19. Saturday’s UFC card has had COVID-19 troubles, for example, as a positive test threw away a heavyweight fight between Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis.
