Both looking to bounce back from a loss, Chase Hooper and Peter Barrett competed in the opening bout of UFC 256. Here’s how the fight went.
Bout 1: Chase Hooper (9-1-1) vs. Peter Barrett (11-4) (Featherweight)
Hooper had a takedown attempt blocked in the first 30 seconds of the fight. Barrett landed a few clean leg kicks in the opening minute. Barrett touched Hooper with a few punches early on. A pause came in the third minute due to an accidental groin shot to Hooper. Barrett continued to walk Hooper down with leg kicks and punches once they resumed. A groin shot to Barrett caused a break in the fourth minute of the round. Hooper looked for a single leg takedown in the final minute of the round. Barrett landed some elbows to the head of Hooper while resisting the takedown. Hooper pulled guard in the final moments of the fight, looking for a heel hook before the round ran out of time.
Hooper landed a hard left straight in the opening minute of the second round. Barrett pressed forward with leg kicks which visibly hurt him. Hooper pulled guard for a moment, bringing Barrett down for a few seconds. Barrett got back to his feet, forcing Hooper back up. Hooper had a takedown attempt stopped in the third minute. Hooper did an imanari roll, grabbing a leg of Barrett once he reached the ground. Barrett was able to escape the position and return to the feet with a minute left in the round. Barrett landed a right hook before the round ran out of time.
Barrett backed Hooper up with a left cross in the opening minute of the final round. Hooper went for another imanari roll in the second minute, looking to grab a leg of Barrett after. Barrett ate a few punches while in a stalemate on the ground. Hooper started to extend with a heel hook on the ground, causing Barrett to tap out.
