A bantamweight fight between former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar and Cory Sandhagen has been verbally agreed for a February 6th card. Ariel Helwani of ESPN was the first to report the fight.
The fight, should it be made official, joins a “Fight Night” card that does not have a location confirmed for it currently.
Both bantamweights are coming off of a recent main event win.
Sandhagen picked up a stoppage win in October, stopping Marlon Moraes in the second round with a spinning back kick. The win saw Sandhagen bounce back from a loss earlier in the year to Aljamain Sterling, where he was stopped in the second minute with a rear naked choke.
Edgar went all five rounds in his last fight, taking a scorecard victory over Pedro Munhoz back in August. The fight was his only in 2020 following numerous previously scheduled bouts falling through.
Edgar snapped a two-fight skid with the win. Previous losses came to Max Holloway and The Korean Zombie.
A bout between Edgar and Sandhagen was booked about a year ago, although plans fell through at some point.
The bantamweight fight joins a card that has a heavyweight main event between Alistair Overeem and Alexander Volkov scheduled for it. Here’s the updated card.
