Former UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis fought Alex Morono in a welterweight bout to close out UFC’s prelims on Saturday. The fight went like this.
Bout 7: Anthony Pettis (23-10) vs. Alex Morono (18-6) (Welterweight)
Pettis slipped after throwing a kick early in the fight. Morono capitalized on the slip, taking the back of Pettis on the ground after. Morono landed strikes from the back that cut Pettis open in the first minute of action. Pettis was able to move into full guard on top. Morono looked for a triangle choke from the bottom for a moment. The fight returned to the feet just over halfway through the round. Morono took Pettis down from his back in the final minute of the round. Pettis was able to flip over and hold full guard on top before the round concluded.
Morono pressured Pettis early in the second fight, constantly advancing on him with strikes. Pettis landed a left hook that snapped Morono’s head back in the second minute. Pettis was able to land singular shots while backing up. Pettis took Morono down in the final minute of the round, although he allowed him to get back up immediately after.
Morono got a takedown from the back of Pettis at the start of the final round. Pettis was able to leave the position, taking full guard on top. Morono worked up to his feet in the fourth minute of the round, separating after being in a clinch for a moment. Pettis landed a spinning back kick that wobbled Morono. Pettis landed a few punches before Morono went to the ground. Pettis held top position on the ground until the round ran out of time. Pettis picked up the win in the end (29-28, 29-28 & 29-28).
