Saturday’s preliminary card started with a fight between Carlton Minus and Christos Giagos. Giagos took the catchweight bout of 160-pounds on short notice, filling in for Drakkar Klose. Here’s how the fight went.
Bout 1: Carlton Minus (10-2) vs. Christos Giagos (17-8) (Catchweight 160 lbs)
Giagos scored a takedown in the opening minute after throwing an overhand right. He took the back of Minus as they got up to the feet. Back in front of Minus, Giagos scored a double leg takedown in the second minute of the fight. Giagos looked for an arm triangle choke while in full mount. Letting the choke go, Giagos took the back of Minus again. Giagos let some punches go in the third minute of the round while in full mount. Minus escaped the position in the fourth minute of the round, returning to the feet. Giagos landed a double leg takedown with a minute left in the fight. Like he did before, Giagos was easily able to move into full mount. Giagos looked again for an arm triangle choke before the round ran out of time.
Minus landed a short head kick in the opening minute of the second round. Giagos scored another takedown a minute into the round, taking full mount again. While Minus was able to block certain things on the ground, Giagos continued to maneuver around him and control the fight. Minus got up in the fourth minute while Giagos was on his back. Minus jumped to the ground, making Giagos land on his back. Giagos looked for a rear naked choke when the fight hit the ground again. Losing the choke, Giagos continued to hold control on top. Back on the feet, Minus stopped a takedown attempt in the final minute of the round.
Minus landed a hard leg kick early in the round. Giagos looked for a takedown in the opening minute of the round but didn’t finish it. He scored one from a body lock later in the opening minute of the fight. Minus returned to his feet halfway through the round, although Giagos stayed pressed against him. They went back to striking range with half of the round left. Minus stopped two takedowns in the fourth minute of action. Minus connected with an uppercut in the final minute of the fight. Giagos got the win via decision after three rounds (30-26, 29-27 & 29-28).
RESULT: Christos Giagos def. Carlton Minus via Decision, Unanimous
