A UFC Welterweight Championship fight between Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns has found a new date, as it is now expected to take place at UFC 258. First reported by Raphael Marinho of Combate, the fight joins UFC’s February 13th event.
The location of the fight is not known at the moment.
The fight between Usman and Burns comes after two previous pairings between them fell through.
Usman looked to defend his championship for the second time in July, being booked against Burns at UFC 251. His opponent was changed to Jorge Masvidal on short-notice after Burns tested positive for COVID-19.
After his July win, Usman was scheduled to fight in December against Burns. That booking was also cancelled after Usman faced injury.
Burns has earned the title shot after a six-fight win streak which included four fights at welterweight. Staying active before testing positive for COVID-19, Burns defeated Demian Maia and former champ Tyron Woodley in 2020.
Usman has now defended his belt twice and remains undefeated through 12 fights in the UFC.
Now with a title fight in the lineup, here’s what has been reported for UFC 258 thus far.
