The March 6th UFC pay-per-view event has received a third championship fight in its lineup, as UFC Bantamweight Champion Petr Yan has been booked to face Aljamain Sterling. Mike Bohn and Nolan King of MMA Junkie were the first to report the matchup.
The fight joins a growing UFC 259 card which does not have a confirmed location at the moment.
A bantamweight fight between Yan and Sterling has been targeted for some time now, as it was first scheduled for UFC 256 in December. The fight left that card and had to be rebooked.
The fight will be Yan’s first since earning the championship in 2020. Yan defeated Jose Aldo in July of 2020 to earn the vacant 135-pound belt. Before the belt, Yan had a six-fight undefeated run in the UFC.
Sterling sees a title shot after a five-fight streak from 2018 to 2020. He earned his fifth win in June, stopping Cory Sandhagen in the second minute of action with a rear naked choke.
The fight is now on a lineup that has three other champions already. Here’s how the card looks now.
