Numerous Bouts Get Added To Bellator’s Upcoming Four-Pack of Events

CORRECTION 4/6/21: The date of the fight between Julia Budd and Dayana Silva has been corrected from April 9th to April 16th.

Numerous bouts have recently been reported for Bellator’s upcoming quartet of events in April and May. The shows, which are set to happen at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, USA, will be a part of the promotion’s debut on U.S. TV network Showtime.

Nurmagomedov Makes Bellator Debut, Mitrione Returns

Bellator’s April 2nd event, Bellator 255, has gained numerous fights as of late.

The Bellator debut of Usman Nurmagomedov is expected to happen on the main card, as he will face Mike Hamel in a lightweight bout. Nurmagomedov, the cousin of former UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, enters the promotion after putting together an 11-fight undefeated record. He last competed in September, where he defeated Svyatoslav Shabanov.

Hamel will be making his second Bellator appearance. The 28-year-old lost his Bellator debut in August, dropping a split decision to Adam Borics.

Magomed Magomedov will return to Bellator on the April 2nd card, fighting regional champ Jared Scoggins, who will be making his first Bellator appearance. The bout was first reported by MMA DNA.

Magomedov had a strong Bellator debut in late 2020, defeating Matheus Mattos to win his fourth consecutive bout. Scoggins enters Bellator after defating Thomas Vasquez to earn the CFFC Bantamweight Championship in September.

Former UFC fighter and Bellator veteran Matt Mitrione will compete on the card as well, being matched against Tyrell Fortune.

Mitrione will be in search of his first win since 2018, as he is currently in a losing streak. He last fought August, where Timothy Johnson took him out within a round with strikes.

The fight will be Fortune’s 12th for Bellator. He bounced back from a previous loss and no contest bout in November, where he earned a decision victory against former Titan FC Champion Said Sowma.

Returning after a successful 2020, Jason Jackson has been booked to fight Neiman Gracie. Jackson picked up two big wins in the year, earning decisions over Jordan Mein and Benson Henderson.

Gracie is riding the momentum of a 2020 victory against Jon Fitch. The win was his return after losing a title fight to Rory MacDonald in 2019.

Borics To Face Former UFC Fighter Kennedy

Returning after a successful Bellator debut last year, former PFL and UFC fighter Jeremy Kennedy will fight Adam Borics on the card. MMA Empire reported the matchup first.

Kennedy first appeared under the Bellator banner in November, where he earned a decision against Adam Bessette. Kennedy had previously participated in the 2019 season for PFL.

Borics took his first pro loss in early 2020, although he later recovered by picking up wins against Mike Hamel and Erick Sanchez.

Former Champ Budd To Face Newcomer Silva

Former Bellator Featherweight Champion Julia Budd has been booked for Bellator’s April 16th card, welcoming promotional newcomer Dayana Silva. The bout was first reported by Marcelo Barone of Combate, with the date later being confirmed by Nolan King of MMA Junkie.

Budd lost her 145-pound bout roughly a year ago, losing a bout to Cris Cyborg in early 2020. She has since returned to competition, as she picked up a scorecard win against Jessy Miele in August.

Silva enters Bellator after a career in Brazil’s regional scene. She has won three of her last five bouts, including three in Shooto Brasil.

Bellator Looking To Book Pico vs. Lee

Bellator are currently working to book homegrown star Aaron Pico against Aiden Lee on their April 16th card, per a report from John Morgan of MMA Junkie.

Should the fight be made official, it would be Lee’s first for Bellator in the United States. The English fighter has competed three times in Bellator’s European events, picking up two wins and one loss in the past two years.

Pico would look to build upon the three-fight win streak that he earned last year. His wins in 2020 included a submission victory against Solo Hatley Jr. and an overhand right knockout to John de Jesus.

Mix Returns Following Title Shot To Fight Gallagher

Returning for his first fight since losing a bantamweight title match, Patchy Mix will fight James Gallagher on May 7th. MMA DNA was the first to report the fight.

Mix was previously undefeated heading into his title fight against Juan Archuleta in 2020. Mix lost the bout, not being picked on scorecards from judges after five rounds of action. Previous fights in Mix’s career included two stoppage Bellator wins and a victory at RIZIN 24.

Gallagher enters his May fight on a three-fight win streak. The SBG Ireland talent was inactive for most of 2020, as a grudge match against Cal Ellenor was postponed twice. The bout eventually happened in October, where Gallagher won in the first round with a rear naked choke.

Here is how the lineups look now.
